Ozark Folkway's presents... The Original Bluebird of Happiness... |

The early settlers of our country were captivated by this lovely, plump, sweet singing bird. More songs and poems have been written about the Bluebird than any other bird. It's associated with spring, love, and joy. It's a symbol of commemorating marriages and anniversaries and a messenger for contentment and health. The glass bluebirds at TERRA are designed by Leo Ward, Master Glass Craftsman and owner of TERRA. They are made from a beautiful blue crystal glass which is "batched" in our glass furnaces, starting with a pure white sand mined in Northeastern Arkansas. The blue color results from the inclusion of black copper oxide in the glass batch. It will never fade or change. The bird is made by gathering a ball of molten glass on the end of a long "punty" rod and shaping it with hand tools as the glass cools. A glass craftsman must have a well trained eye and quick but steady hands. After cooling, each bird is inspected for flaws before it is signed and dated. If you have a chance to visit with us in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, you can watch the birds being made. Our Bluebirds of Happiness are signed and dated collectibles that you will be proud to won or glad to give as a gift to a dear friend. At TERRA, a tradition of fine American craftsmanship lives on.
